About the winery:

Rosalea Winery has a team of people who are passionate about preserving the balance between humans and nature, with wine serving as the connection between these two domains. They cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Chardonnay, Mavrud, and Rubin on the gentle slopes of the Sakar Mountain in South-Central Bulgaria.

At Rosalea Winery the wine-making process always begins with the grapes and their surroundings. And every bottle of wine comes with its own story about growth, change, and experimentation. Rosalea is dedicated to giving their customers the wines they love by constantly evolving their vineyards, achieving visibility and predictability in results, and improving management techniques over the crops and overall wine quality.

Implementing the BeVine smart vineyard management software solution in Rosalea’s vineyard

We first started working with Rosalea’s agronomist Aneliya Pavlova back in 2020, when the winery was searching for means to have a clear view of their business by reducing the lack of visibility and optimizing vine growing procedures and production costs. Aneliya had some prior experience with pest and disease management solutions and was passionate about precision viticulture and electronics in the wine industry. She was eager to explore a more modern technology for Rosalea’s vineyards.

We introduced the team to our cloud-based smart vineyard management software, which was quickly adopted at Rosalea thanks to its intuitive UI and user-friendly functions.

The solution reads live data from sensors that are placed in the vineyards and measure various environmental and climatic conditions . The data is then transmitted to the BeVine mobile sensing platform where it is analyzed and used to generate predictive models on pest and disease development, as well as on vine growth. The outcome of these models is consequently used in decision making in the vineyard regarding treatments, soil cultivations, manual works, etc.

Ultimately, our solution gives the winery owners a centralized place where they can monitor all the activities done in their fields via artificial intelligence, remote sensing dashboards and digital diary. Also, consulting agronomists can manage the process and make informed decisions remotely through precision viticulture technology. All that turns our solution into a true precision agriculture tool.

“A major drawback of widely used models is that they predict infections too early in the season. And this is not always optimal for our work. For me, as an agronomist, it is extremely important to have a reliable tool available at any time of the season. This allows me to to save a spraying for example, or to organize a relevant work process at the most precise moment. That's exactly why I chose to trust BeVine in my everyday work. Their solution is an essential assistant in the arsenal of every agronomist.”

Some of the benefits that the BeVine solution gives to the winery include:

 Field Management:

The software helps the team map their vineyards and enter all the relevant information such as location, type of grape, soil type, etc. in an intuitive, easy-to-use vineyard map.

Electronic Diary:

A detailed electronic diary that allows them to enter all information about the activities carried out in the vineyards, log symptoms of diseases, monitor phenology models, vineyard health, weather conditions, and more while enabling full visibility for all stakeholders in the process.

Disease Prediction Models:

Rosalea’s team utilizes BeVine to monitor downy mildew and black rot, which are of utmost concern during the growth season. The software assists in early disease detection and helps the agronomist to predict and control the spread more efficiently.

The bottom line:

Since implementing the BeVine vineyard management software, Rosalea has been given peace of mind and the ability to manage their vineyards more effectively via a remote sensing platform. The software provides them with a comprehensive view of the vineyard operations and helps the team to make informed decisions about vineyard management.
